How to ease your fear of the dentist

If you have fear of pain, embarrassment about your teeth, or a bad past experience, you're not alone if you have dental anxiety. Try these tips to make your next visit easier:

  • Communication: Share your concerns with the dental staff. It will help them adapt treatment to your needs and put you both more at ease.
  • Distraction: Wear headphones and listen to your favorite music or audiobook. Breathe deeply and slowly to a count.
  • Prevention: Brush twice every day; floss regularly; and avoid sugary foods and drinks to make sure there’s as little as possible to do during the visit.

And remember, technology and pain management have advanced in recent years. Fillings and other common dental work are nearly pain-free anymore.
