Almost every day, Delta Dental’s mobile dental staff sees children in pain because of untreated dental disease or ashamed to smile because of damaged teeth. They are children who have been unable to access dental care for any one of many reasons.

Our Dakota Smiles mobile dental program has been a part of Delta Dental of South Dakota since 2004. We started with one mobile truck. The need was so great we added a second mobile truck in 2008. Both are booked up to a year in advance, and travel across the state for 40 weeks of every year.

Delta Dental of South Dakota manages and operates both mobile trucks. We work with local community site partners, like the Rapid City Club For Boys, to identify those children most in need of care who can least afford it. Local community sponsors also contribute a moderate stipend for the visit.

Since 2004 we’ve visited 78 towns throughout the state, served 28,076 kids, and provided $13.3 million in care at no cost to the families of kids treated.
