South Dakota Fish Favorites that are Great for your Grin

When is fishing season in South Dakota? Every day of the year!

Whether you’re on a boat in the Missouri River, enjoying the cool rush of a Black Hills stream or hunkered in an ice fishing shack on a glacial lake, the fishing here is so good it will set you reeling!

It’s one of our favorite things to do and we’re blessed by its bounty. But did you know that the feast from our waters is a great catch for your teeth too? Here are three examples of freshwater filets for your smile.

• WALLEYE

Our delicious state fish is an excellent source of potassium, which can help boost bone and tooth density. And it’s a great source of lean protein – one of the most important building blocks for a healthy body.

• TROUT

The fighting prize of the Black Hills comes loaded with vitamin B12, which promotes gum health and can prevent canker sores.Especially when grilled, its low fat and low cholesterol make it a great healthy addition to your plate.

• SALMON

The deep water delicacy of the big reservoirs has calcium and vitamin D (which you get from the sunshine while fishing too) that work together to strengthen tooth enamel. And because it’s rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, it’s great for your cardiovascular health too.
